SCT #211 -- Gauge your output speed for consistency

Howdy Reader!

I've struggled a lot with consistency in my creator journey.

It's cost me momentum and readership.

At one point I was getting several signups a week for a previous version of this newsletter.

But I wasn't sending any out.

What a waste, right?

This lesson I've learned time and time again.

I can be a slow learner, but I think I've got it this time.

Starting out (or starting back up) for consistency

I began (again) in April 2025 publishing this newsletter regularly (six times a week).

This newsletter is the one thing I make absolutely sure I get out to you all.

Even if everything else falls apart, I can point to this and say, "OK, I did that."

It's a great plan to start with just ONE thing that you'll commit to (in this case, my newsletter).

It's manageable.

It's not overwhelming.

It builds a track record of success, and trust.

The next piece of consistency

Now that I've gotten this down, though, it's time to add.

It's time to do something else consistently.

But how much? How often?

This is a matter of pacing.

Gauging output speed.

For my next trick, I'm looking to do the following consistently in addition to the newsletter:

  • Publish five articles a week
  • Post three times a day on Threads

There are other things, but I'm concentrating on those now.

The other stuff will get done when it gets done.

My trial run for getting ahead

I mentioned yesterday that I'm headed for my high school reunion at the end of the week.

I'd like to be able to focus on my classmates rather than my content.

Right now, I have my work cut out for me.

  • My Threads posts are good through Thursday (nine more to write)
  • I have two articles published, and one drafted (two more to write, three more to publish)
  • I have three more newsletters to write

Today after work will be crunch time.

I'm ahead a little bit, but I need to be ahead more in order to meet my goal.

Gauging things properly takes some trial and error, and I'm in that phase right now.

This is part of The GAS Method.

I'm working on a new product. Gauging the speed of your work is part of this.

Building consistency is best done methodically, and that means not trying everything at once.

Howdy Reader! Today is a short one. I have a question for you. What is the biggest obstacle you face as an online creator? Everyone who responds to this will get a personal response from me. Howdy Reader! I didn't set out to construct a complicated, hard-to-maintain content creation system. Over twenty years chipping away at things, though, that's kind of the way it's turned out. I'm making hard choices with what I'm doing, and being very careful what I take on. How much can be cut out? We can cut, and cut, and then cut some more. Eventually, we get to something that can't be cut anymore and still be viable. At that point, we've achieved minimalism. Things are as simple as they...

Howdy Reader! I'm back home after a great weekend with some of my awesome high-school classmates. And there were indeed lawn games at the event, haha! In an effort to focus on them and the weekend, I scheduled my content ahead of time. It's a key part of The GAS Method I've been working on. I managed to get a couple of days' worth of content ahead. Here's what I had in the hopper: Two WordPress articles Two Medium articles (basically the same as the WordPress articles) Two issues of my Solid...
